Florentine Frantz is a PhD student and research assistant at the Research Platform “Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Academic Practice”. Together with Ulrike Felt she works in the project Borderlands of Good Scientific Practice, which investigates how research integrity is negotiated in diverse arenas and dealt with in practice. In the framework of this project she has written her Master Thesis in which she investigated the Austrian discourse in newspaper articles on scientific misconduct in Austria.
Her main research interest lie in studying the dynamics of contemporary academia as well as how and which socio-epistemic and institutional configurations matter for doing research, in particular doing ‘good’ research. In contemporary academia conceptions of what good, responsible or relevant research is and who should care for it vary a lot. Researchers have to manoeuvre in a globalized research system between competing value regimes, increasing bureaucratization of research processes and evermore importance of external funding. Florentine’s dissertation thesis focuses on the perspectives of researchers as central actors for doing good science and how their role for doing so is conceptualized in their institutional and epistemic context.
Florentine is a council member of STS Austria, the Austrian Association for Science and Technology Studies. In her role, she organizes events and regular meetings and for early career researchers and students in the field of Science and Technology Studies.
